What did you say?

Not a lot of fun to look at, is it?  Well, believe me, it's waaaay worse after you do the research and fill in the blanks.
This is an example of the coloring sheet back I'm using on all the 2012 Home Team materials.

PLEASE save a copy of the image and print put a bunch to use any time you hear the name of a politician who you know virtually nothing about.

The final version will have fields programmed in that will let you type your research into the pdf version. For now, good old pencil will have to do.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, visit the Home Team Politics Kickstarter page to see one prominent group of American politicians  that you can use this sheet to gather information about.

Visit the CPC Twitter List to get a sneak preview of the entire Congressional Progressive Caucus, and let them know you're paying attention!

Among the missing

If you're coming here from Kickstarter then you've probably already Ed Pastor's card. Twice.
If you're NOT coming here from Kickstarter, by all means click to visit right now! My excuse for not blogging in a month (hurm) is clearly explained there.
What is not clearly explained would be these next two drawings…

Neither of these men are, to my knowledge, members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus.

Mission Accomplished?

Kind of off topic, but this week Rick Santorum suspended his pursuit of the GOP nomination for President of the United States.

Several years ago, Mr. Santorum lost an election in his home state to today's Home Teamer, Bob Casey Jr. It was a pretty big win by any standard. Strangely, Mr. Casey is also not running for anything in 2012.

Wait, what's that you say?

He IS running for Senate seat again?

Happy Birthday!

Hey

I find it a little funny that when I went to Wikipedia today to begin my research for today's caricature of Ruth Bader Ginsburg the featured article was about Black Francis. In 1993 when Mrs. Ginsberg began her job in the court, I cared a lot more about what was going on with the Pixies.

I'm Impressed

He held a job the whole time, just one job, and raised a family of nine kids? I'm amazed at what a husband and wife on the same page can accomplish. Happy Birthday Antonin Scalia!

The Streak

No, not Undertaker's 20-0 record at Wrestlemania (tho Happy Birthday Paul Bearer!) but the judicial streak of Justice Sam Alito...

Seriously, is there something wrong with me? The story of Bill Moody's gastric bypass surgery brought me to tears. It seems like every week I'm weeping about something in pro wrestling, but I can't remember a time I ever cried abut a politician.

Minority Opinion

Week two of Home Team's Supreme Court coverage commences with the digital speed painting of Justice Clarence Thomas.

And with a very mild hangover.

To recuse, or not

You know how on DVDs (remember those?) there used to be "Easter eggs"? You could fiddle around in the menu screens and sometimes there would be surprise bonus features like outtakes or making-of featurettes.

Elena Kagan might be an Easter egg for the court. According to the Wikipedia article, liberals are afraid that she will draw the court substantially to the right. I can tell you, from my interactions with conservatives there is not a whiff of hope from them that such is the case.
On the other hand, if one can have faith in Resurrection then it is certainly possible that President Obama's Solicitor General-turned-Associate Justice will vote down the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. In fact it may have already happened. I also kept that lottery ticket I found last week at McDonalds.

Active liberty

Of particular note to me is the authorship of 1970's "The Uneasy Case for Copyright..." by Stephen Breyer. Hmm.

Qualified

I think I'm getting worse as I use the SketchClub app more. But who am I to judge?

Meanwhile, it's still Supreme Court week for the Home Team, and here's newbie Justice Sonia Sotomayor (who I am also unqualified to judge).

Late Justice

Not late as in deceased, late as in I missed his birthday in January. So Happy Belated Birthday John Roberts!

Oh Dear

Justice Anthony Kennedy is not having his birthday til July.

Read this, and imagine it's the British who are doing it, not Americans.

UNICEF is not MODOK

Happy Birthday Tony Lake!

I used SketchClub for this, mainly because it has an awesome in-app recording feature…a feature which I somehow botched, erasing the neat 17 second video file it produced. Oh, well, maybe yesterday.

UnLikeness

Happy Birthday Rachel Maddow!

This was done with no reference, as a test of the iPad SketchClub app's screen recording feature.
All apologies to Ms. Maddow.

Pat and Frank's

Pat and Barney are today's Home Team Birthday Boys. Both are well known on either side of the aisle, and neither runs competing butcher shops in Oak Lawn Illinois.

Ta Daaaaa!

Not only did I not have any birthday caricature for yesterday, but today's Home Team Birthday Lady refused to share her big day. So, Happy Birthday Nancy Pelosi!

Down the...

What do you call a Senator who's served in office for 35 years?

Happy Birthday Orrin Hatch!

Inadvertently Promoting

Happy Birthday Howard Coble!

And I haven't been in the House of Representatives continuously since 1985, but It seems to me that these days we have more important issues to legislate about than whether or not it's ok to put new subtitles over movie clips of Hitler.

I could be wrong though, I'm just a cartoonist.
